What do parents say?
72% of parents say YES!
In July 2013 Le Tissier carried out a nationwide survey to find out what parents think about children wearing sunglasses at school.
We received 113 responses from parents of primary school children in New Zealand from 74 different primary schools representing 17 different regions from Whangarei down to Queenstown. This was followed by 10 qualitative interviews.
The common finding from the qualitative interviews was that parents were unaware of the effect of the sun’s UV rays on the eye and they therefore need information on this matter. Nevertheless, 54 per cent of parents already do believe that children should wear sunglasses when playing outdoors in summer during school hours. This number would surely increase if parents were given information about the sun’s effect on their children’s eyes.
